In a draft Federal Register Notice posted today, the Bureau of Industry and Security expanded Section 232 tariff treatment to empty aluminum cans and beer in aluminum cans to be effective 12:01 am EST on April 4, 2025. The impacted HTS codes are 7612.90.10 and 2203.00.00.

As a reminder, importers will need to provide the primary country of smelt, secondary country of smelt and country of cast for all aluminum and derivative products subject to the rule. Reporting of the derivative weight and derivative value are required for products outside of chapter 76.
